Acts 9:1-8 Amplified Bible
1 Meanwhile Saul, still drawing his breath hard from threatening and murderous desire against
the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest
2 And requested of him letters to the synagogues at Damascus [authorizing him], so that if he
found any men or women belonging to the Way [of life as determined by faith in Jesus Christ],
he might bring them bound [with chains] to Jerusalem.
3 Now as he traveled on, he came near to Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven
flashed around him,
4 And he fell to the ground. Then he heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why are you
persecuting Me [harassing, troubling, and molesting Me]?
5 And Saul said, Who are You, Lord? And He said, I am Jesus, Whom you are persecuting. It
is dangerous and it will turn out badly for you to keep kicking against the goad [to offer
vain and perilous resistance].
6 Trembling and astonished he asked, Lord, what do You desire me to do? The Lord said to
him, But arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.
7 The men who were accompanying him were unable to speak [for terror], hearing the voice
but seeing no one.
8 Then Saul got up from the ground, but though his eyes were opened, he could see nothing;
so they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus.
1. In verse 3 you will see that, “Suddenly a light from heaven”
So we can see that when God intervenes He always brings light
So where there was darkness He always brings light.
2. In verse 4 it says, “then He heard a voice”
The next thing that will happen with an intervention is that
God speaks and you will hear clearly!
There is no misunderstanding about what His will is when God intervenes in your life.
3. Then He heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?”
The intervention may challenge your intended purpose and direction!
And so when God intervenes, He may ask you the question: “Why are you?”
So God may be asking you WHY you are doing certain things in your life.
4. The reason for the intervention is made known
God is intervening because He wants you to know why He is intervening in your life. It is for
change.
I believe and I know that God is intervening in this body of believers and it means that He is
intervening in your life. Intervention by definition means that God is going to challenge us
with a question, “Why are you?”
We will then ask Him a question: “Who are You to be to us now?”
He is then going to make His intervention clear to us and we will be required to change our
purpose and direction.
It is my declaration:
That you have the courage and you have the boldness to change your direction in your life at
this season of your life!
5. Then verse 6: Trembling and astonished he asked, “Lord, what do you want me to do?”
I want you to see.
At this time it is acceptable to God that you may ask questions.
So questions may be asked because intervention is direct and intended for change!
6. A response of obedience and submission to His will is expected!
The Lord said to him: Arise and go into the city and you will be told what you must do! This
was not a suggestion this was a command! Obedience was expected!
7. It leads to immediate and specific action!
God’s intervention will always lead to immediate and specific action!
8. It may require further spiritual understanding that comes through prayer and fasting,
which incorporates separation and meditation.
Intervention is such a powerful force in our lives – It represents Jesus to you.
God addressed Saul and He said: “Saul, if you keep doing this, it’s going to go badly for you,
because you are going against Me!”
Saul still had a choice; he could choose not to serve the God that confronted him on the road
to Damascus or he could choose to go with God.
I believe that in a moment of intervention, everybody here will recognise Jesus as Lord in his or
her lives, and you will choose to follow Him and become obedient to Him!
